Sample Lesson Plans, Assessments and Student Work

Flipped Classroom

I continually reflect on my teaching practice and try to add new "best practices" to my existing curriculum. One idea I tried last year was using a flipped classroom to help make our time in class more valuable.  Each student was responsible for watching a short video and then answering questions about the video.  The intention was to give the students some good background information, before beginning the lessons.

Thinking Maps

One of our schools major focus has been on the use of Thinking Maps, as graphic organizers to facilitate the learning of complex ideas.  There are eight differnt maps, each linked to a different thought process.  These maps can be used for notetaking or as a way to organize your thoughts for a writing assignment.

STEM Lessons

Many schools, including ours, have strongly focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum.  Our school has also challenged the teachers to incorporate a greater rigor with theses lessons.  To increase the rigor of this lesson we included a written essay component, to assess their understanding of the project and to stretch their creativity.
